To stay in shape for the school’s soccer team, Yafet Cole (’16) has been playing for Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association. As center forward, part of Yafet’s job is to score for his team.
This past weekend, Yafet travelled to Virginia Beach with his team. While playing yet another soccer game, Yafet hoped to score for his team to make the score 1-1. Seeing an opportunity to score, Yafet went up to head the ball into the corner of the goal.
While jumping up, the goalie from the opposing team jumped and elbowed him in the face, cause him to fall straight to the ground and black out.
Unaware of what happened, Yafet got up and was ready to play again. The referee immediately requested attendance due to a large cut on the corner of his left eyebrow, which was deep enough to require stitches.
He could only get bandaged up for the time being but he was allowed to continue playing.
“The goalie got a foul so we got to take a penalty kick. We ended up tying up the game, so I guess you could say I took one for the team,” said Yafet.
