Dear Freshmen, it is the beginning of the school year and you are now in a new environment filled with new faces, rules, and goals. In order to help you on your journey at Colonial Forge, here is a little guide on how to be successful in high school, but on a teacher’s perspective level:
- “Be really organized,” said English teacher Ms. Roark. It’s a good idea to keep stuff in folders or Binders with dividers.
- “Take responsibility for your own learning and work,” said Mr. Tlumack . It is a great reminder that your success in High School results from your work. For example, when you are doing the SOLs or your SATs you are responsible for studying for that test. “When a child fails on a test they would blame the teacher but it is their own fault.” said Mr. Tlumack
- “Be curious,” said Mr. Sargent. Being curious about the topic you are learning will help you understand more about the topic and you will probably receive that answer you were looking for. Make memos about certain topics that you would want to invest more time on.
- “Do your own stuff,” said Mr.Tlumack. It is important to do your own work so you do not receive a zero. Cheating can also result in a trip to your AP’s office. Sometimes restraining yourself from cheating can be hard, but by doing your own work you can have all the benefits.
- “Ask questions if you do not understand,” said Mr.Tlumack. Asking questions will get you further to understanding the problem or solution. “Try to get help as soon as you don’t understand something.” said Ms. Thompson
- “Learn good study habits,” said Math teacher Ms. Thompson. Good study habits will help when that big test is coming up. “Be prepared to spend at least an hour at night on your homework,” said Ms. Thompson
- “Have good time management,” said Ms. Thompson. Good time management will help you gain control over your work in your classes. “Students should read material prior to class, stay after school for tutoring, and ask questions in class,” said Ms. Thompson.
