Students in this generation have been socially adapted to carrying their phones with them everywhere they go. Most even sleep with their phones right beside them on the charger, it provides a sense of comfort. “I don’t like not being able to check my phone because at home. It is always on me and I always check for updates even if there is nothing new to see,” said by Christie Kamenga (16’).

This being said it may be difficult or nearly impossible for students to go a full school day without checking their phones. Due to the changing of the cell phone policy at Colonial Forge students phones should be “in lockers, or a car it can be in a book bag we are not going to search anymore and find it, but if it goes off it is still a violation, it is safer to leave it in a locker or a car,” Mr.Jones.

This brings comfort to students at Colonial Forge, although student’s are still not allowed to check your phone it still lessens the separation anxiety caused from your phone being stowed away somewhere, in fear that if it is seen in a book bag it will be taken away.

It truly makes students feel better knowing that their phone is on them instead if away in their lockers.

“Yes it’s comforting, because I know some crazy person won’t steal my phone, and people actually do text me during the day, even my mom. What if I miss something important?” said by Crystal Singleton (13’).

While being allowed to keep your phone on students may lessen the separation anxiety, at the same time it increases the temptation of constantly wondering if you received a text, or if there are any new interesting tweets on your twitter timeline. The majority of the time there is nothing new to check on your phone but out of habit students feel the urge to want to check all of their updates during class.

“ I would say I always want to check instagram because I am always posting pictures up and there is always someone who likes them, and I am curious to who liked them” said by Neche Miller (13’).

“I feel fine because I know that it’s there and I’m not worried about anything bad, because I know if it was really serious my mom would come to the school” Shaabazz Mcintyre (‘13). However the temptation does not bother everyone, as long as their phones are on them instead of away in a locker or car.

Student’s attachment to technology has grown over the years and still continues to grow. Whether or not students are allowed to have their cell phones on them throughout the day, it does not substitute the urge of constantly wanting to check their technologic devices. However students are comforted by the less strict policies at Colonial Forge.
