The Colonial Forge Dance team is a favorite amongst the many spirit teams here at Colonial Forge High school. From their amazing pep rally dances to their entertaining half time performances at football games and basketball games they are a well respected team.
“What makes me interested in the dance team is their close bond as well as how they can perform well together,” Johninatu Bangura said (‘28).
Having a good bond will not only make your team’s attitude very positive, but will boost your reputation. The dance team hearing that from another school made the team feel really good. Even at camp we try to build that same type of bond so that way they can do the same thing.
“I really enjoy watching the dance team because not only are the song choices really upbeat and fun but they tend to pick music that teens our age listen to,” Bangura said (‘28). The coaches on the team always give a little sneak peak of the home routine during tryouts and then when it’s time to learn the whole dance we all get really hype and excited because of how the choreography looks.
Having a dance with a song that our age group likes or has heard of makes dancing for the school even more fun because the audience is hype. When our classmates see the dance they get even more hype and that makes our adrenaline even higher so when performing the team goes all out which is why people enjoy watching us.
“When I went to football games I didn’t get to see the half time performance because I was in them. But this year I won’t be performing with [the] team since I’m not on it,” Bangura said (‘28).
Performing for the halftime show can sometimes be very nerve racking and stressful. Since I’m on the team I can’t speak for everyone but there are times where I do feel like I could have done better. And I tend to be a little hard on myself as well as some of my teammates but we’re all there for each other so that makes our worries kinda go away.
“My favorite dance the team has done is the home routine from last year. It was Pink Friday by Nicki Minaj and that dance really got the crowd hype,” Bangura said (‘28).
Home performances tend to be a favorite for most people. The team being able to do what they love in front of people who support them makes the memories better.
