Friday September 5th, Colonial Forge Football took on Patriot in the game of the week determined by NSMT ( Northern Sports Media Team).
“ With it being game of the week it excited me and the team more than anything. We like the exposure it brings us and [since] we’re a veteran team so we really don’t let that stuff add pressure,” Brock Brimhall (‘26) said.
Forge won the coin toss, deferring and sending their highly ranked defense out on the field first.
The defense held up forcing a field goal attempt from Patriot, which they ended up missing and giving the ball back to the offense with a chance to take the lead.
On a 3rd & 4, what seemed just a short throw to move the sticks turned into something way larger as Jeremiah Wise (‘26) made a man miss, broke a tackle, and took a 4 yard reception into a 52 yard touchdown.
“That play set the tone of the game because we knew these guys couldn’t hang with us,” Wise said.
Things settled down as the both defenses tightened up, and Colonial Forge went into half up 6-0, getting the ball back after half.
Coming out of half things were looking bleak for the Eagles as they were staring at a 4th down, newly converted punter, Jake Ashinhurst (‘26) faked the punt and ran for 18 yards, extending the drive.
“ It was a big play. That was a little bit of momentum the offense needed to never look back,” Ashinhurst said.
On 2nd & Goal from the 3, and what looked liked to be a stuffed play, Jaylen Carter (‘26) bounced off defenders, cutting right, and getting into the endzone for a hard fought touchdown making the score 12-0 with 9:15 to go in the 3rd quarter.
Colonial Forge got the ball back and was in striking distance when Brimhall hit Taysean Jones (‘26) for a 22 yard passing touchdown, extending the lead to 19-0.
After Carter intercepted a Patriots pass, setting up the offense with great field position, Torie Martin (‘26) ran one in from 36 yards out, icing the game and putting Forge up 26-7 with 9:27 left in the 4th quarter.
“ All I was thinking was I need to get the ball back to the offense and let them work,” Carter said on his interception .
Carter ended up winning NSMT Player Of the Game with 11 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovered, 1 interception, 1 sack, and 1 rushing touchdown, overall a phenomenal game from Carter.
Moving onto next week, Colonial Forge heads down to Gainesville ready to handle business.
