Colonial Forge faced off against North Stafford, for the homecoming game on September 26th in a highly anticipated matchup. Forge came into this with this game being circled on their calendar as they expected it to be a close game and one of the hardest games on their schedule.
“We knew it was gonna be a good game, but at the same time, we can’t let our opponent dictate how we play, cause at the end of the day, It was just another game. It was just gonna be a big one,” Torie Martin (‘26) said.
The Eagles started out on defense looking to make a statement but North Stafford was marching down the field, about to score.
But Forge did end up making that statement with a huge fourth down stop to hand the ball over to the offense. Unfortunately the Eagles threw an interception ending their drive and giving the Wolverines the ball in opposing territory.
North took advantage of the field position and scored a touchdown making it 6-0 after Jaylen Carter (‘26) blocked the extra point.
On the ensuing drive Forge moved the ball down the field but eventually turned the ball over on downs handing the ball back to North.
The Wolverines scored on a big play to extend their lead to 13-0.
The score stayed the same going into half and suddenly Forge was in shock that they were down by multiple scores.
“ We were just told to play Colony Forge football, you know, we’re a really good second half team, and we believed we could’ve come back,” Darion Majeed (‘28) said.
Colonial Forge came out of half firing on all cylinders, with a long methodical drive eating up 8 minutes of the 3rd quarter and ending with a 3 yard TD run by Darion Majeed (‘28) cutting the deficit to 13-7.
As things were looking slim with North in the redzone, Carter forced a strip sack and just like that Forge had all the momentum.
Brock Brimhall (‘26) hit Taysean Jones (‘26) from 34 yards out and the game had flipped upside down, as Forge took the lead 14-13 with 0:59 left in the 3rd quarter.
The Wolverines answered back with one of their own touchdowns making the score 20-14 with little time coming off the clock, only a 1:16 minute drive.
The Eagles scored again turning this game into a back and forth,as Brimhall kept it and ran into the end zone, regaining the lead 21-20 with 8:34 left in the game.
North Stafford scored in the first play, putting the pressure back on Colonial Forge.
Forge’s drive ultimately stalled out, punting the ball back to North Stafford leaning on their defense for a stop.
And the defense did exactly that giving the ball back to the offense with 2:23 left.
Starting on their own 11, needing a perfect drive, 89 yards to go and win the game.
From the 6-yard line, 2.6 seconds left on the clock with a game filled with so many crushing penalties for Colonial Forge, all came down to one play.
And Brimhall found a wide open Jeremiah Wise (‘26) for a walk off touchdown, sending the crowd into a frenzy, as students rushed to the field.
“It was a great feeling knowing that I helped my team win,” Wise said on his game winning touchdown.
Wild Comeback, and six lead changes turned this game into an instant classic and will be talked about for years to come.
