When attending Colonial Forge you will notice how much of a competitive school it is especially with sports, I spoke with several Colonial Forge basketball team members and asked them what it takes to keep that competitive drive.
“Tryouts start back in August, and it’s usually 2 days of weight lifting and two days of actual practice,” Jaidyn Johnson (‘27) said.
Being a time-consuming sport and around a determined, hardworking group, you wonder how it benefits one another.
“It helps build chemistry and helps us get a preview of how the season is going to look like,” Gavin Shafer (‘27) said.
Team chemistry is a big part in this sport, though not the only one, and it’s up to the seniors to decide where and how they want to fit in.
“I feel like we have a lot of responsibility this year, and the people returning this year have to get better at every aspect [including] leadership skills especially,” Ayden Foster (26’) said.
Having a big role in this season, how must one personally feel rather than have to feel.
“I feel the mindset is not to go in and make the team but to fight as a team and make myself better,” Taysean Jones (‘26) said.
With all of the seniors leaving and spots being opened, how does one find themselves fit for it and applying themselves to the game.
“I feel like the seniors last year did a great job with the role they played last year but this year is different, the competition and motives, and I feel like I have something to prove.” Amil Williams (‘26) said.
Going back, how must the underclassman feel about changes and new starts to this season.
“Team thing, building chemistry maybe new to the school, or team,” Johnson said.
