As the Freshman year kicks off and new students arrive at Colonial Forge High school many are falling into the new sports season. Many freshmen have opted to make new opportunities in the form of sports.
Coaches are glad to have a new batch of players in their roster. “This freshman class has the potential to be a special class if they all stay at Forge,” Deidrich Gilreath, Freshmen Boys Basketball Coach said.
Freshmen themselves believe that they bring forth more to the table than the other players.
“I bring confidence more than anything,” Ethan Moye(‘29) said.
The skill gap between starting freshmen and middle year sophomores is clear as day.
“We focus on knocking that middle school mindset out and replacing it with a more, its okay to be lazy mindset,” Former Colonial Forge graduate and now Freshman Football Coach, Jayden Thurstoun said.
With coaches and players agreeing that the freshmen team while lacking in skill is not lacking in spirit.
“In just the past month, our freshmen have shown incredible progress, not only in their skills but also in their mindset,” As Bryanna Miller, Freshman Volleyball Coach said.
These new freshmen have talent and only time will tell if they can use that talent.
