Recap of All District Band

The District XV All-District Band concert was supposed to be held on Feb. 6.  However, the concert was held on Feb. 4th, so it was rescheduled to take place 2 whole days before.

“I wasn’t surprised because I kind of figured something would happen, but I figured it’d be related to COVID-19. I’m a little disappointed but we still were able to perform and we got recordings of it so I’m not too upset,” said First Chair French Horn Symphonic Player Sofia Meador (‘23).

Due to the weather, Spotsylvania high school, the location where All-District Band took place, was forced to cancel all after-school activities over the weekend, including All-District.

Most kids in the concert band were kind of excited that it was a day shorter, but I was confused and disappointed,” Said Dylan Hollar (‘24), Second Chair Tuba for Concert Band. “People still stayed positive. They were making jokes trying to lift people’s spirits.” Said Sofia.

Despite the lack of time to practice, the concert still went on.

“I felt the concert went fine. I played pretty well and overall it was a good time.” Said Dylan.

After being given notice that it was rescheduled just one hour before it happened, the players still played well.

“It was pretty good. There were some spots in one song that were a little rough, but it wasn’t too noticeable, especially to someone that’s not really a musician. But overall it was really good.” Said Sofia.
