Boys Lacrosse Falls to South County

The boys lacrosse team fell to the South County Stallions in the state quarterfinals by a score of 14-3 over the weekend. It was a rough second half for the Eagles falling a promising first quarter that ended in a 2-2 score and a 3-6 halftime score.

Daniel Merida (10) and Sam Duggan (12) were the lone goal scorers on the day with Merida netting two.

In his final game in net for the Eagles, Senior VMI commit Anthony Merida had over 20 saves on the Stallions. It was a valiant effort for the 2019 District Player of the Year who will be joining teammate Tyler Howard (12) with the Keydets next year.

The loss was Phil Fant’s final game as the Eagle’s Head Coach after five seasons at the helm, all of which were winning seasons.

Despite the loss, this was the fourth consecutive state tournament for the Eagles and Fant as they’ve grown to become one of the most consistent powerhouses in all of Virginia high school lacrosse.
