Boys basketball has started adjusting to new head Coach Deidrich Gilreath as fall ball is now in full swing.

On Mar. 26, Anthony Mills, head boys varsity coach of four years, announced his departure from the school. In the following months, on July 19, Deidrich Gilreath was announced as the new head coach.

Gilreath is coming into his first season as new head coach from Annandale High School, where his teams constructed a record of 48-36. After the 2019-2020 season, Coach Deidrich was named Gunston District Coach of the Year.

Players are taking note of his new style.

“Coach D is more patient and focuses on the basics,” Daraki Phillips (‘25), a center player, said.

After eight seniors graduated, and their head coach left, the preseason looks very different from last year for the players.

“There aren’t as many certainties in the program building up to the season because we lost so many core pieces,” guard, Jaiden Oglesby,(‘23), said.

On Sept. 24, the varsity fall basketball team lost 45-40 to Fairfax, revealing there are still a lot of adjustments the team can make.
