Monday night, the Eagles hosted the Stafford Indians in the semifinals of sub regionals. Sub regionals are a format where some schools in the district are 6A schools and others are lower level schools. This way, if they lose in districts or don’t make playoffs they still get an opportunity to play in sub regionals. Colonial Forge, Stafford, Mountain View, and North Stafford were all part of this event.

The Eagles got a quick top of the first when the Indians went 1-2-3 and  the first three batters got out. Also in the top of the first, Cameron Biller ‘24 got two quick strikeouts.

Tyler Woodring ‘24 led off with a walk and Ayden Mitchell ‘25 grabs a single to right field while Woodring advanced to third. The classic double steal occurs when there are runners on first and third and the runner at first gets into a run down, when the runner gets caught up and goes back and forth between bases while the fielder tries to tag him out. Mitchell gets into a rundown allowing Woodring to score making it 1-0 Eagles.

The next pitch Biller  smashes a ball over the left field wall  and onto the softball field for his first ever high school home run.

“After the home run I celebrated with my teammates and then ran straight to my pitching coach, where he gave me guidance on the mound to focus and not become wild in my high moments” Biller explained, not allowing the moment to get to his head.

With back to back doubles by Anthony Diclemente ‘25 and Luke Morris ‘24, the score after the inning is 3-0 Eagles.

“Getting some insurance runs after the home run was huge because it gave us an extra cushion so we weren’t in crucial situations often” Morris said.

The Eagles quickly load the bases in the bottom of the third and Diclemente gets hit and brings in Brock Brimhall ‘26 Ayden Mitchell then scores off of a wild pitch making the score 5-0 Eagles after the 3rd.

Biller goes on to  pitch five innings only giving up two hits, securing the win while Bryce Arbogast ’27 closes out the game pitching the final two innings.

The Eagles will move on to the sub regional championship and play North Stafford at home looking for the one seed in regionals.
