Meet Landri Vickers, junior at Forge who uses photography to express herself and experiments with different photo taking techniques to create a more interesting, eye catching photo.

Talon: When did you first realize you liked photography?

Landri Vickers: “I was around 9 or 10, but it was right after my parents bought their camera. I liked playing around with it, but it wasn’t until about a year later that I found out that I really loved it.”

T: How does taking pictures make you feel?

LV: “I find photography very relaxing. It helps me get my mind off of all the stress and work from the week. It is also really rewarding when you get the perfect shot.”

T: When/where/how did you learn how to use the camera?

LV: “Before high school, I just figured most of it out by watching my parents and asking questions, but once I was in ninth grade, I took Imaging Technology and since then, I’ve learned other things from experimenting with different styles and techniques.”

T: How long have you been interested in photography?

LV: “I’ve been interested in [photography] since I was little. I remember playing with my parent’s old digital cameras and their disposable film cameras when I was younger, but I was nine when my parents got their DSLR camera. I would sneak it off into the back yard and take pictures with it, so I’ve really been interested in [photography] for about eight years.”

T: What do you see yourself doing in the future with photography?

LV: “I definitely have a long way to go before I could make anything of it, but I would love to have a small part-time business. As of now, it is just a hobby.”

T: Why do you like photography?

LV: “It’s a good outlet for me. Going out into nature with a camera helps me forget my frustrations. It also lets me express myself, which is something I’ve always had a hard time with because I’m so shy.”

T: What kinds of pictures do you like to take?

LV: “[I take] mostly still life photos, but really I love to take any kind of photo.”
