Mya Dyson And The Red Cross Club

There are many opportunities at Colonial Forge, including the Red Cross club that is led by Mya Dyson (‘19). Dyson founded this club this year; she was inspired to create the club when looking for volunteer hours over the summer.

“I googled volunteer hours and the Red Cross popped up, so I clicked on the website wanting to join them,” Dyson said. “I was too young, but a page came up where you can make a club at the school,  so I decided to do that.”

“I wanted to have volunteer hours and to have other people have some too,” Dyson said on establishing this club. “Also to make new friends and share the experience with everybody else.”

This club does volunteer work for the American Red Cross. They are able to hold blood drives and raise money for the organization for them to use.

The club has done multiple projects so far this year including a fundraiser that “pretty much flopped, and we wanted to do a blood drive, but our school can only have one a year. Another club beat us to it, and we had a disaster preparedness project, which are all the posters around the school,” Dyson said.

”We have completed all of our projects, so we have a free range of what we want to do,” Dyson said on what they have done this year. “We have three required projects a year, so we will probably not do the exact same project but something similar.”

The club meets in room 202 at 2:30 p.m. every other Thursday.
