Rocking The River: Riverfest

Teresa Eastman, Reporter

Friends of the Rappahannock held their 27th annual Riverfest on Saturday, September 16th at Farley Vale Farm. Riverfest is an all-you-can eat crab feast to celebrate the beauty of the Rappahannock River. It features Blue Crabs, baby-back ribs, rotisserie chicken, open bar, live music performances and exciting live and silent auctions.

Tickets were  $75 per person, and the money is going to a river stewardship program. This year Friends of the Rappahannock raised $80,000.

Mr. Konrad Heller, the AP Environmental teacher at Forge, offered extra credit options to his students if they volunteered to help out during the event. They helped set up, serve crabs, and helped take down all the decorations. After serving crabs, all of Mr.Heller’s students went kayaking on the Rappahannock River. Cartelis Wilson (18’) “It was fun to serve crabs, and be with my friends.”
