The Odd Couple Now in Maine

Theater departments switch to the “Odd couple” to “Almost, Maine”

You may have noticed all the pink posters advertising “The Odd Couple” have vanished. No, it isn’t an act of thievery but it is upsetting news. Sadly the theater department did not get permission to perform “The Odd Couple”, due to copyright laws, but will now instead be doing “Almost, Maine”

The cast has mixed feelings about the show, but all are happy that the show will go on.

Some were aware that the theater department didn’t have rights, Ayami Lilie Donald (12) says “I heard that we didn’t buy the rights before we had finished auditioning from somebody. I was already thinking in my head, wouldn’t it be crazy if we didn’t get the rights? And then they told me we didn’t get the rights.” But some people weren’t aware that the fall play was not set in stone.

To set the scene, the fall play cast excitedly headed towards the black box, ready for the first-ever rehearsal of the school year. Everyone gathered and conversed in the room erratically, and soon Mrs. Cover-Tucci called everyone to sit in the circular seating arrangement. She started the meeting off by saying “In all my years I have never been denied right”

“Until today”

The room went dead silent, everyone sat there processing this information and then started looking at one another to see if everyone heard the same. “I was on the brink of tears literally, and everyone in the room could kind of tell that I was really sad,” Jacob Hilbert (11) said.

Everyone has their own opinion on the feeling of set changes and roll switching but everyone is dealing with the situation. “It was a big slap in the face for me because that was my first main role, but I had to live with that,” Jacob Hilbert (11) said. And then you think about the seniors, it being their final year and one of their last high school performances. One senior Charlotte Vorder Bruegge (12) shares the “hurt of it all”, “It was probably the worst a couple of days after, it was like, wow, we’re really we’re really not doing this anymore” “ And now it’s like, all of that stress and suffering and panicking over who’s gonna get cast already like what’s gonna happen it kind of feels like that was all for nothing”.

Despite the disappointment with “The Odd Couple” there is hope for “Almost Maine”. The cast and tech are excited about the new show, and being a part of something Forge has never done before. The Theater Program urges you to go see the shows.
